Program for Little Helpers (ages 3-5)

(571) 252-9202

Little HelpersThis is the ideal time to introduce your Little Helper to the fun aspects of cooking and to start building their foundational knowledge of this key life skill. The Little Helpers program is designed for children ages 3 to 5 and typically lasts 1 hour to 1.5 hour weekly.¬†Each week’s exciting lesson plan harnesses the children’s immense curiosity to keep them engaged and learning.¬† The children will be encouraged to do the one thing they love… getting their hands dirty. They will dig into the garden while learning and they will stir up a mess in the kitchen while learning. Each week will highlight key skills that will be practiced and reinforced throughout the curriculum. This is a kids-only program, so parents are welcome to drop their children off or stay at the culinary center and enjoy some R&R by the Koi pond.

Throughout the lessons, our Little Helpers will visit the culinary garden (weather-permitting) to identify foods and the ingredients we may need for our recipe. The objectives of these classes include:

  • Developing fine motor skills (cutting soft veggies/fruit/cheese with a plastic knife).
  • Assembling the ingredients by identifying the food.
  • Learning to mix the ingredients (without worrying about spilling).
  • Being exposed to the various measuring and cooking tools.
  • Learning how food is grown (we will visit the culinary garden).
  • Identifying good bugs, garden tools, and type of plants.
